Fondo: The historic La Ciaspolada, the world’s biggest and oldest snowshoe event, returns to the global stage in 2027 as the 53rd edition of La Ciaspolada is set to host the World Snowshoe Championship 2027 in Fondo, Trentino, Italy.
Athletes from across the world are expected to converge on Fondo and the spectacular Val di Non for a major international snowshoe competition featuring Senior and Junior categories for both men and women.
Organised by Novella Società under the auspices of the World Snowshoe Federation (WSSF), the championship promises to be a major celebration of snowshoe sport, bringing together elite athletes, emerging talents and snowshoe enthusiasts from around the world.

A Historic Return to Italy
La Ciaspolada has been held since 1973 and has a long-standing place in the history of international snowshoe running. The event has previously hosted the World Snowshoe Championship on two occasions, making the 2027 edition the third time that the Val di Non competition will welcome the world championship.
The first championship hosted at La Ciaspolada saw Alex Baldaccini and Isabella Morlini claim the titles in 2013, when athletes representing 30 nations took part.
In 2019, the championship returned to Fondo, with 29 countries represented. Cesare Maestri and Annalaura Mugno emerged as champions.
With its rich history, challenging winter terrain and passionate local support, Fondo and Val di Non once again prepare to take centre stage in international snowshoeing.
Athletes from Around the World
The 2027 championship is expected to attract leading snowshoe and endurance athletes from across Europe, the United States, India, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Japan and the Middle East.
The international participation is expected to make the championship a truly global gathering and provide a high-level competitive platform for both established athletes and the next generation of snowshoe runners.
A New Chapter for Snowshoe Sport
With snowshoe running continuing to grow in popularity as one of the world’s fastest-growing winter sports, the 2027 World Snowshoe Championship is expected to provide another major opportunity to showcase the sport on the international stage.
Coming shortly after Italy’s hosting of the Winter Olympics, the championship will further strengthen the country’s position as a premier destination for winter sports and provide a unique platform for promoting snowshoeing to a wider global audience.
